Plays for stage
Self-harm
A play in three acts set mostly in a holiday home and gites in the Alpes de Haute Provence region of southeastern France, and partly in England.
Steven and Gillian, the owners of the house, have been running the holiday letting of their gites successfully for some years. Their relationship is not without stresses, and their young friend, Moira, who is spending the summer with them helping with the management of the business, becomes an additional stress. Their good friend and neighbour, Jonathan, visits often, and tries to help, rather ineffectually. Moira bears multiple scars on her left arm from self-harm, but we learn that others self-harm in ways that leave less superficial scars.
Novels
Blue Moon
Around 1996-7, I started writing this book in reaction to the accelerating loss of humanist values, the growing authoritarianism and surveillance, and the disastrous destruction of the ecosystem that I saw everywhere. My novel was interrupted rather soon by real life, and I worked on it very intermittently over the next 30 years. Many chapters are drafted and the broad outline of the plot is clear (to me, at least!). I will post here some sections, with the intention to complete missing parts progressively.
The novel is framed as a utopia-dystopia revealed gradually through the experience of a man who wakes one morning, apparently having lost 27 years of his life.
